A man died of alleged police torture in the lock-up of the Cantonment Police Station.

Police had arrested the suspect, identified as Azam, in an abduction case. During investigation, police claimed, the suspect suffered a heart attack and he was rushed to the emergency ward of the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) where doctors pronounced him dead.

However, Azam’s family alleged that he was tortured to death by police. They demanded registration of a murder case against the police officials responsible for interrogating him. The police handed over the body to the BVH for postmortem which could not be carried out due to holiday (Sunday).
