KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Thursday directed the interior secretary, home secretary, provincial police chief and the Sindh Rangers’ director general to file comments on a petition against illegal detention of three citizens by the personnel of law enforcement agencies.
The petitioner, Sofia Saeed Shaikh submitted that his brother Sikandar Saeed looked after his sister’s licensed hydrant in Landhi area. On January 28, the Karachi Water Sewerage Board (KWSB)’s officials accompanied by the Rangers’ personnel illegally demolished the hydrant and took away her brother, she added.
She said the family members of detainee had approached the Rangers’ officials to seek information about her brother but to no avail. Rangers personnel had kept him in illegal detention, said the woman petitioner requesting the court to order law enforcement agencies to produce her brother in court.
Another petitioner, Nadir Khan, who owned a hydrant in Manserah Colony, Malir submitted that KWSB officials along with Rangers personnel dismantled his hydrant on January 28 and whisked away his two employees, Niaz Ali Shah and Asad Zaib. Since then there was no clue on their whereabouts, he added.
After initial hearing, a division bench issued notice to the official respondents while directing the Rangers’ wing commander to produce the citizens in court, if they were in their custody.
