SHIKARPUR: Enraged relatives of a suspect held a demonstration at Rustam Road Chowk in Shikarpur on Thursday in protest against his death in the lock-up of the New Faujdari police station the previous night.

The police said that they picked up Wahid Bukhsh Shar in Alam Shar village on Wednesday for interrogation about an offence but he suffered a heart stroke sometime during the night and passed away. They did not specify the offence he was alleged to have committed. However, his family members and relatives rejected the police claim insisting that he was tortured to death.

Demanding registration of an FIR against the police personnel responsible for his death, the enraged protesters held a demonstration at the Rustam Road Chowk disrupting the flow of vehicular traffic for several hours.

They dispersed after senior police officers assured them of an inquiry into the matter.
