SUKKUR: A raid commissioner conducted raid on the Ghouspur police station on Wednesday and got a man freed from illegal confinement.

The district and sessions court of Kashmore-Kandhkot appointed Naveed Akhtar Awan as raid commissioner after receiving an application from Abdul Khaliq Ogahi, complaining that police had kept in illegal detention his nephew Rehmatullah Ogahi for the past four days without any charge.

The applicant said the SHO of Ghouspur had earlier lodged fake cases against his family after taking a bribe from their opponents and he was now demanding Rs20,000 for the release of his relative.

During the raid, the court official found Rehmatullah in the lock-up and did not find any entry recorded against him in the police daily diary. He then seized the record, got Rehmatullah freed and asked him and the SHO to appear in court on Thursday.
