Illegal`detention case

A judicial magistrate raided the Brigade police station on Monday and recovered a man apparently kept there in unlawful detention.

On the directives of a sessions court on a habeas corpus application, a judicial magistrate (east) along with the applicant and his lawyer raided the police station and got the detainee, Ashan, released on a personal bond as the police remained unable to justify his detention.

The magistrate also directed the SHO and the duty officer as well as the applicant to appear before the sessions court on Tuesday (today).

A brother of the detainee moved the sessions court against the illegal detention stating that the police picked his brother and illegally confined him for a bribe.
