Exhumation

| 17 January 2016

The family and neighbours of a youth who died allegedly during interrogation by Jinnah Road police gathered on Saturday outside the district and sessions court and filed a petition through their counsel for exhumation of the body and its autopsy.

They blocked Sialkot Road and shouted slogans against police demanding stern action against officials involved in the alleged killing in custody.

The protesters alleged Zaman alias Irfan had been picked by Jinnah Road Assistant Sub-Inspector Sadaqat Ali from his house a few days ago on charges of involvement in a theft, killed during interrogation and his body buried after being declared unclaimed.

Dawn learned that senior police officers were looking into the matter and a case could be registered against the investigation officer and his staff after an inquiry.

City Police Officer Waqas Nazir had already ordered registration of case against half a dozen police officials, including Station House Officer Sajid Mehmood of Cantonment, who had allegedly killed Liaquat Masih during interrogation in a theft case two days ago.
