Eight policemen held for suspect’s death in custody

TOBA TEK SINGH: The Pirmahal police on Wednesday arrested a sub-inspector and seven other policemen after registering a case under Section 155C of the Police Order 2002 over the death of suspected killer Mohsin Nazir in custody.

District Police Officer Rana Shahzad Akbar had deputed DSP Mahmood Haroon to inquire into allegations of Nazir’s death in custody.

In a report, the DSP found SI Syed Alamdar Husain and his accomplices guilty of failing to get proper treatment of Nazir who died on Sept 2 at Faisalabad’s Allied Hospital, while the higher police authorities were not informed about deterioration of his condition during his detention at the Pirmahal city police post.

District Police Officer’s spokesman Inspector Shahbaz Virk confirmed the arrest of the policemen and said they had been sent to the district jail on judicial remand.

Earlier, another (murder) case was registered on Sept 3 after several hours of protest by the relatives of Nazir. Complainant Sarwari Mai, the mother of Nazir, said four policemen including Pirmahal city police post in-charge SI Khalid Tayyab, ASI Muhammad Nawaz, constables Muhammad Imran and Irfan Ali tortured her son Nazir to death during investigation of the murder of Ghulam Rasool.

The DPO also ordered abolition of the Pirmahal city police post and merged it into the police station after the incident.
