Bailiff recovers man from police custody
LAHORE: An additional district and sessions court on Saturday set a citizen free after getting him recovered from illegal custody of the Nawab Town police station.
Malik Ghaffor filed a habeas corpus petition alleging that the Nawab Town station house officer had been keeping his brother, Hafiz Tahir, in illegal custody for the last two days.
He said his brother was not required by the police in any criminal case and the SHO was keeping him in illegal custody and demanding bribe for his release.
He appealed to the court to depute a bailiff to recover his brother. Following court orders, a bailiff raided the Nawab Town police station and recovered Tahir from the lock-up.
The bailiff submitted in its report to the court that no case was registered against the man in the FIR register.
The court freed the detenue and directed the SSP discipline to take a departmental action against the SHO.
