FIDH draws attention to violence against women in Africa in a comic strip

| 28 November 2016

(Paris, 24 November 2016) Every day, everywhere, women are victims of sexual violence. FIDH and its members and partners are fighting daily to end this scourge. To this end, States must be held accountable: they have the obligation and the means to take measures to eliminate violence against women.

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, FIDH and its 40 member organisations in Africa call on States to take urgent steps to end sexual violence in Africa.

In Africa, women are victims of different forms of sexual violence: genital mutilation, early and forced marriage, domestic violence, sexual crimes in armed conflicts and political violence. To put an end to this scourge, FIDH presented its analysis and recommendations to the ACHPR (African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights) at its 59th session”.
