Local police on Thursday registered a case against eight policemen, including an SHO, on the charge of killing a youth in their custody.

Police sources told media that the case was registered on sudden death of Muhammad Aslam in police custody against SHO Naveed Pehlwan, ASIs Mubashir, Raja Ali Nawaz and Rana Ishaq, and four constables under sections 302, 148, 149 and 155 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The family of the deceased alleged that the police arrested the boy seven days back and tortured him to death. Aslam’s family members said the police had demanded Rs 0.3 million for his release and they were unable to pay that amount. On the other hand, police officials claimed that Aslam had been arrested on the charge of stealing a motorcycle and as he was a patient of hypertension, he died due to high blood pressure.
