JHANG: Kotwali police said on Thursday they had registered a case against eight police officials, including an SHO, on charges of killing a youth in their custody. A case was registered against SHO Naveed Pehlwan, ASIs Mubashir, Raja Ali Nawaz and Rana Ishaq and four constables under Sections 302 (murder), 148 (rioting), 149 and 155 following the death of Muhammad Aslam in police custody. Aslam’s family said police had arrested him a week ago and beaten him to death. They alleged that police had demanded Rs300,000 for his release. Police said, however, they had arrested Aslam for stealing a motorcycle. They said he had suffered from hypertension and had died of the disease.
