Villagers protest man’s death in custody

SHEIKHUPURA: Dozens of villagers of Karyal Kalan near Narang Mandi ransacked the Narang Mandi police station on Tuesday in protest at the death of a man in police custody.

Narang and Sathra (Sailkot) police officials raided the village to arrest Mudassar in dacoity cases. The police took his father Tariq into custody who died at the police station due to alleged police torture. On being informed, the villagers put the body on Kala Khatai Road and also attacked the police station. Senior police officials arrived at the scene and assured the protesters that action would be taken against the killers according to law.

Sathra police said Tariq died of heart attack.
