SHC issues notices on plea against detention of citizens by LEAs
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Thursday issued notice to provincial home secretary, Sindh police chief, director general of Rangers and other respondents to file comments on several petitions against detention of citizens by the law enforcers. Petitioner Shabana Naeem, wife of a detainee, submitted that her spouse Muhammad Naeem was whisked away by the personnel of law enforcement agencies from Garden area on June 16, however his whereabouts were till not disclosed, nor was he produced in any court.Petitioner Urooj Saqib stated that her husband Saqib Afridi was taken into custody by the Rangers on June 6 and since then his whereabouts were unknown as they were not disclosing any information despite having been approached repeatedly. Noreen Farooq said that the Rangers personnel had taken away Syed Asif Ali from Joharabad on May 09 but they had not till date disclosed his whereabouts. She added her husband was kept in illegal detention by the law enforcers who do not produce home in any court of law. Petitioner Ifit Tabinda said her husband Waseemuddin was arrested by the law enforcers from Saddar Town and since then he was missing. She pleaded with the court to direct the law enforcers to produce him in court. After preliminary hearing, a division bench headed by Justice Sadiq Hussain Bhatti issued notices to respondents – provincial home secretary, Sindh police chief, director general of Rangers and others to file comments on the petition. It directed the provincial law officer to ensure filing of comments by the respondents before next date of hearing.
