Six policemen booked for ‘custodial death’
KASUR: Pattoki police on Thursday registered a case against a sub-inspector, an assistant sub-inspector and four constables after a suspected robber died of a ‘cardiac arrest’ during investigation at the police station.
On Tuesday night, Pattoki police arrested suspected robber Muhammad Amin of Chak 69 and registered a case against him under Section 392 of PPC on Wednesday.
According to police, Amin felt chest pain and was admitted to Pattoki THQ hospital where he died on Thursday morning. Police claimed that he died of a ‘cardiac arrest.’
However, on the orders of DPO Rai Babar Saeed, a case was registered against SI Muhammad Nazir, ASI Muhammad Akbar and four constables Abid Ali, Sadam Husain, Rasheed and Irfan.
PROTESTS: Scores of farmers staged a protest demonstration against Lahore Electric Supply Company officials outside Lesco office on Khem Karan Road on Thursday.
Led by Kisan Ittehad Secretary General Muhammad Sadiq, a number of farmers gathered outside the Lesco office and chanted slogans against meter readers for recording advance reading. They also demanded replacement of old meters with the new ones.
A farmer requesting anonymity alleged: “If we give Rs1,000 per month to a reader, he does not go for excessive units.” Meanwhile, a number of contract employees of irrigation department took out a rally under the leadership of Apca President Manzoor Ahmed for regularisation of their services.
The rally started from Kot Ghulam Muhammad and ended at DCO office.
The protesters demanded regularisation of irrigation department staff.
On the assurance of the Kasur DCO, the agitators dispersed peacefully.
ACCIDENT: A rickshaw driver was killed in an accident here on Thursday in Chunian City police precincts.
Reports said Muhammad Imran lost control over his three-wheeler and it hit a tree near Brothers Sugar Mills. He died on the spot.
