LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday disposed of a habeas corpus petition against the Kasur A-division police for keeping an alleged robber in illegal detention.

A bailiff recovered the suspect from the police station and produced him before the court.

The suspect was unable to walk and police personnel had supported him.

An officer of the police station told the court that the suspect was wanted in 18 cases of dacoity including one at the residence of former chief justice of Pakistan Tassaduq Husain Jilani’s brother.

Justice Aalia Neelum directed the police to produce the suspect before the judicial magistrate concerned and get his medical examination.

Sughran Bibi, the petitioner, had stated that police kept her son Muhammad Mushtaq in illegal detention and subjected him to severe torture. She asked the court to get her son recovered.

Bail rejected: A Lahore High Court division bench on Wednesday dismissed bail petition of a suspect involved in distributing prohibited literature.

CIA police on Jan 9 had arrested Moazzam Rashid from Sabzazar for allegedly distributing banned literature.

The police said Rashid was the member of a banned outfit.

Counsel for the suspect, however, argued the police falsely implicated his client in the case. He requested the court to release the suspect on bail.

A deputy prosecutor said a case was registered under the Pakistan Protection Law and there was an ample evidence against the suspect. He also said the offence was non-bailable.

The bench dismissed the bail petition.
