Man got freed from ‘illegal’ custody

KARACHI: On the directive of a sessions court, a bailiff on Thursday raided the Darakhshan police station and recovered a man apparently kept there in wrongful confinement.

The bailiff raided the police station along with the applicant and his lawyer and recovered detainee Anis Ahmed Khan, who was said to have been picked up from his house three days ago.

The bailiff said that he got the detainee released on a personal bond since there was no entry in the daily diary about his arrest and the police officials also remained unable to produce any other evidence to justify his detention.

He also directed the SHO and the duty officer to appear before the district and sessions court (south) on Friday.

A brother of the detainee moved a habeas corpus application in the court and submitted that the police had wrongfully confined the victim and was demanding a bribe for his release.
