SUKKUR: A court official paid a surprise visit to the Abad police station in Jacobabad on Monday and ordered release of a man found held in unlawful confinement in its lock-up.

Azizullah Jamali was appointed raid commissioner by the Jacobabad district and sessions court on an application filed by Raham Ali Leghari, a resident of Ahmed Mian Soomro village, stating that his son, Baabi Leghari, had been held in unlawful confinement in the police station for four days.

Mr Jamali conducted a raid on the police station and found the victim lodged in the lock-up. He checked the record and found no entry of the man’s detention or arrest. SHO Ghulam Mustafa Nandwani failed to justify Mr Leghari’s detention and was ordered to release him. The SHO was also directed to appear in court along with the record on Tuesday.
